Still obsessed with Wicked!

...and it's been almost 5 months. That musical was phenomenal. I listen to the soundtrack, I find out stupid little details about the current, past and future casts in all of the productions, and I get defensive about the Wicked Witch of the West (known dearly to me as Elphaba). It's like, a serious thing for me. And I suddenly felt the need to vent.
While I'm on the subject, I should mention that I'm reading Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. I'm about halfway through, and I'm not loving it, I think, for lack of characters from Wicked. It's not bad, but I never particularly liked Liir (Elphaba's son- in the book, not the musical) so what happens to him is not very intriguing to me.
However, I did love the dedication at the beginning of the book. Because the sequel to The Wizard of Oz was dedicated to some of the cast members from The Wizard of Oz on Broadway, Gregory Maguire dedicated Son of a Witch to the cast, creators and crew of Wicked. I was so excited when I saw that!
Back to my obsession. I can't see myself ever getting over it, but I know that's wrong. I'd really love to see it again, but I'm not going to be anywhere it's peforming for at least a year and a half, and next chance I have to see a broadway musical, I'm probably not going to see Wicked, since I can only see one musical when I'm in the States, every 2 years, and I might as well see something I haven't seen before. Right now I'm searching for a fansite to quench my thirst, but the internet isn't providing anything worthwhile. I should go to sleep.

Grr.

We had school today.

It's... snowing!

Yes, it is! And this was my day so far:
I've had a cold for the past few days, and this morning it expanded to include a sore throat. Then there was getting to school at 9:30 because of this abnormal traffic, due to the very heavy rain. I had a chemistry test during the first two periods, but the rest of the day was something of a waste of time because all of the teachers were sick and almost nobody was there. They let us out an hour early, and I found myself hoping I wouldn't get stuck in Yerushalayim when the snow decided to come down. There was a tiny bit of snow when I was on my way home, but nothing noteworthy, or sticky for that matter. I walked home from the bus while being pelted with tiny hailstones, but no snow.
When I got home, I went on my computer for a bit and hung out with my brother Noam. I was helping him build this Lego truck, and suddenly my sister Sarah comes in and says, "Have you looked out the window?" We hadn't, and therefore failed to notice the thin layer of white on our front lawn. We worked on the truck some more, and then my sister Mira called us downstairs and told us to look out the window. There were massive amounts of flakes falling, and everything outside was white. We were kind of thrilled...
Awhile later Mira and the boys and I went outside, and we had a bit of fun in the snow. It was really beautiful in the snow at night, but the sad thing about this country is that nobody can guarantee it'll be there tomorrow. What's the point of snow, especially in Israel, if school doesn't get canceled?
Anyway, of course tonight had to be the night our gas broke at home. That means, no hot showers, and no use of the stove, which means a lot of the "snow foods" aren't available. On top of that, we also lost power for about 20 minutes.
I managed to get a short shower, and dinner was soup out of the freezer. Thank heavens for the microwave!
So I started feeling a bit worse, and I took my temperature. Now I have a drop of fever, but that's just frustrating. I hate being sick and having no fever, so since I had a cold anyway I would have much preferred to have the fever on one of the earlier days this week.
So that's our story. I think snow is good any time.

The End of an Era

This is so sad. It's also exhilirating. Yes, we Potter-freaks are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but unlike most lights we're really sad to see it. But the fact is: The era of the Harry Potter fandom, of the waiting and speculation about the future books will be over somewhat soon. We don't know when, yet, but the title of Book 7 was released today: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It sounds freaky, of course we have no idea what it means, but the point is, it symbolizes that the last HP book will be released at some point on the horizon, and then there will be no more HP speculation!
This is sad.

Eragon

Now is the time where I need to post on my blog and tell everybody whether or not I liked the Eragon movie, and the sad fact is I have no idea what to say.
First of all, they made quite a few unnecessary changes from the book. Too many. Some of them may be because they weren't sure they were doing a sequel, but a lot of them were for no good reason.
That said, I think if I hadn't read the book the movie would be pretty good. Some of the actors weren't great, but I was very impressed by Ed Speleers (Eragon), who is a new actor. The more experienced actors (especially Jeremy Irons as Brom) were great. Although the relationship between those two characters was supposed to be closer than it was in the movie. Not to mention that the relationship between Eragon and his dragon Saphira (voiced by Rachel Weisz)was supposed to be very very tight, and it wasn't. Oh, well. Such is life.
Oh, and they completely butchered Angela, who's one of my favorite characters in the book. I don't know what was up with the movie Angela, but they might as well have cut her for all the difference she made.
So, did I like the movie? I have no idea.

Chanukah!

A little closer... almost there... just a little more... I made it! I've finally reached this glorious vacation, and I'm ecstatic! Chanukah vacation comes out to 9 school-free days, including Shabbatot and Fridays.
So: The plans. Savta's here, so that's always fun. We have a Bar Mitzvah on the second Shabbat, and between Monday and Thursday we'll be in Eilat. I have plans to see Eragon, the movie version of one of my favorite books, on Sunday, and I can't wait! Other than that, the plan is to take advantage of my time to work on my Neturei Karta paper. Speaking of fun...
So, everyone, have a great Chanukah! I'm trying to think of some cheesy line to say involving lights, but I'm not thinking of anything, so we'll leave it at that.

Neturei Karta

Yes, I'm writing my big paper this year on Neturei Karta. Neturei Karta is a group of Chassidim extremely opposed to Zionism. They believe Israel- my home, I might add- has no right to exist, they maintain close ties with various Arab organizations, and the reject the State of Israel even though a bunch of them live here. I should also mention that they're somewhat outcast within the Chassidim.
I've just been taking notes from their site, which inconveniently enough, isn't available in Hebrew (on principle, it looks like, although it is available in Arabic and German and a bunch of other languages) which means that everything I read needs to be translated into Hebrew.
Anyway, their site is driving me crazy! Everything they say is so opposed to everything I believe in, and it's hard. I mean, taking notes is easy because their views are so clear, but whoever said Zionism rejects Hashem? And since when does most of the world believe (wrongly, of course) that Zionism and Judaism are the same thing? I certainly don't.
On that happy note, have a good week!

A little bit of randomness

Check this out. I randomly Googled Dr. Seuss today, and found it. It's good to go back to when you were about five sometimes.
Random trivia: He wrote Green Eggs and Ham (which, incidentally, has been turned into a cookbook) on a bet for $50 that he couldn't write a book with 50 words or less. This is what I get for tearing apart his website.
So, in the words of the Doctor:
"I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny. But we can have lots of good fun that is funny!"

What's doing?

I haven't posted on here for awhile. I've been doing a lot of school stuff, brainstorming the story I'd like to have time to write, and discussing the Sherut Leumi issue. I'll update on that later, probably in about 4 months when (if) I have it all worked out. Whatever. We're a bit sensitive on that right now.

Hello, Dawlishes! Yeah, I really loved that line.
Before I get into anything, I should really mention that I had a not so great end of the day- I had issues getting home, issues being another word for waiting alone out in the freezing cold at a bus stop that looks like the middle of nowhere for over an hour, and getting home at 8 after my driving lesson ended at 5:30. Then I got home and saw- this!
On this week's episode, guest starring is Garth Franklin, who is in the know on the movies. We get to hear what he thinks the trailer, which will be coming out this week, will be like, from 17 hours into the future (a.k.a Australia).
And we hear a bit of what John thinks the trailer should look like too, of course including the one and only character of importance: Dawlish. Melissa asked the fans to make videos of John's trailer, and the first one showed up on YouTube under 12 hours after the release of the podcast, as per Garth's prediction that it would be there in the morning. You can watch it on www.pottercast.com
So, the trio and their guest discuss everything about movies- trailers, ratings, release dates and just about everything else.
Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, John is feeling better! Yay!
OMG, John just said he doesn't think Dawlish would be in the trailer! I never thought I'd hear something like that out of him.
And that's about it! Don't forget to listen!

So... what's new?

Ummm... not much. I've got a lot of school stuff going on (3 tests this week!), some Sherut Leumi (national service) stuff, and I'm a bit stressed. I've developed an addiction I'm rather enjoying to this pair of pink fluffy slippers I bought some five years ago, which are really wonderful in the winter, and it looks like my father may need to take an emergency business trip to America, which will provide me with the only shampoo that can control my hair. (Herbal Essences, "None of your Frizzness". Highly recommended for frizzy hair.) That's about it.
Have a good week!

Melissa is back with her Mac! Yay! But John is sick... and in need of chicken soup. Get well, John! (Which is appropriately enough the title of this week's Episode 62.) And Sue is just happy because Jo updated her site. (Not to mention because she's a Hufflepuff, so she's always happy.)
We're all happy, because Jo had a good writing week. Melissa: "I can just imagine what comes out of her on a good writing week." And a bit freaked out, because Jo's now considering a third title for Book 7.
The biggest tragedy in this weeks HP news is that Dan Radcliffe, who plays Harry in the movies, thinks Harry is going to die in the last book. Melissa: "I don't talk to people like that. I might make an exception for Dan Radcliffe..."
Canon Conundrums: What is the nature of wizarding portraits? How much can they say? What do they do? How will [the anonymous character who died at the end of Book 6]'s portrait help Harry in Book 7? Will he turn into a morbid parrot? What about the portrait of Harry painted by the *cough*amazingly talented*cough* Dobby? Will it repeat warped catchphrases of Harry? ("Inh, inh, inh, inh...") (Of course, that won't be helpful because Harry's not going to die...) Steve: "You get the little three-year-old wizard with his first box of crayons, and before you know it you got all these things on the wall going 'Inh, inh, inh, inh...' 'I drew a picture of you, Mommy.'"
Steve: "I wonder what she's going to write next." Melissa: "Book 7." Yeah, I'd say it's the best Episode 62 Canon Conundrums they've ever done, and thanks to Jason's Chipotle Burrito reference, it wasn't even John-less.
Sue, don't get rid of your squees! As long as nobody's lost their hearing, we don't need any Listener Protection Act. We love your squees!
Speaking of which, I love Sue... that Hufflepuff patriotism (in the mailbag) is just too cute! And while we're on the I Love Sue rant, I should probably mention that I am so behind her about the entire trio living!!! There's just no other way.
Now, the blog challenge. First of all, Melissa is accusing us of slacking. Hey, I don't celebrate Halloween, OK? OK, she's right. So, for this week's challenge, what can I do to make John feel better? Hey, I gave his show a great review. Anything else?
Yeah, I should probably mention that John was really missing from today's PotterCast. We love him! PotterCast without John Noe is... just Melissa and Sue. Melissa and Sue are wonderful and wonderful, but without the third wonderful PotterCast just has a gaping hole in it... So I really hope John is better and back for Episode 63. The show was really missing in John-isms this week.
What else is there to say... Oh! I forgot! There's going to be another live podcast at Phoenix Rising, which I mentioned in my previous PC post. Oh, and anyone who's interested in writing/singing filks (song parodies), now is the time to start listening to PC because they're having another flik-cast for the holidays!
One last note: I like the new PC art! It's cool.
OK, that's about it. So go download the show!

Hey!

What's going on... a Shabbat Ulpana (school Shabbat) this past week. I love those. My school's been doing it at the same place on the same week for 8 years, and this was my last one. This made me very sad, but I was one of the only ones who felt that way...
In other news, my latest high is that I have no tests till Thursday. Which is a very good reason to come in here and post a mini-update before my high turns back into reality...
Have a great rest of the week!

Welcome, welcome to this weeks PotterCast post!
We're missing Melissa this week, because she has a ghoul on her computer. Too bad. But John and Sue do a great job, so don't worry. And the ghoul should be banished by next week...
This week's fan interview is about Arithmancy, the wizarding version of math.
Canon Conundrums: Is Sybill Trelawney a fraud? Steve, aka Ark, also wants to know why her name is spelled Sybill in the US versions of the books, and Sibyll in the UK versions. But that's Steve... My opinion? I agree with Sue. She has the Inner Eye, but it's not too good.
If anyone in Miami is reading this, don't do trick-or-treating at John's apartment. He may kill you with Peanut Butter Cups. And you can go to Sue, because she doesn't just give out celery.
Speaking of Halloween, I don't celebrate it. Since the PC blog challenge this week is to display the pictures of yourself dressed up as a HP character, if anyone who reads this does celebrate Halloween, you can always dress up for me! Or you can just throw a white sheet over you and pretend to be John. Just don't forget eyeholes!
And don't forget to listen!

See this?

Anyone who has any vague interest in either High School Musical or my *cough* adorable youngest brother, should check this out right away. The sound is behind by a few seconds, but just go and tell me it's not cute!

It's starting...

Yup! The studying, the homework, the pressure, and for the first time in my life, the discussion on what to do when it's all over... :-(

PotterCast III

PotterCast, the Harry Potter podcast: Celebrity interviews, theories, discussion and more from the Leaky Cauldron
Click here for episodes and info; click here to subscribe via iTunes, and click here to use this player on your space and win prizes!

Remember the first time I posted about PotterCast? I said anyone who is remotely interested in Harry Potter needs to check out this great podcast. Well, I take that back. Anyone and everyone must check out PotterCast. It's just so hysterical, and like I've said before, Melissa, John and Sue are awesome. So what if you've never read any Harry Potter? All you need to know is that the plural of Horcrux is Horcruxes, and you're good to go. It's funny stuff, I think anyone can appreciate it. Just remember, if PC does get you addicted to HP (welcome to the club!), remember I sent you to PC.
Right now I'm listening to PC #59, just released today, which was opened by Matt Lewis who played Neville Longbottom in the HP movies. I can't comment too much, because I'm only 21 minutes in, but I have to say I was touched by something they said. They have a new call-in segment, where, and they were scheduled to have it at 7:00 PM on Friday, but then they changed it to Thursday at 7:00 PM so that Jewish people (much like myself...) can call in. So thanks for thinking of us, PotterCasters!
Now at 38 minutes, I just had to comment on one of the most popular and one of my favorite segments of PotterCast. They have this "Live or Die?" thing, where they ask the fan they're interviewing in their weekly fan interview about a bunch of characters, actually all of the main characters, whether they'll be alive at the end of Book 7. It's fun to listen to, and if I'm alone in the room you can hear me giving my own opinions on that. (Yes, I talk to the podcasts. :-))
Oh, another thing from this weeks PC: PC is going to be featured in Apple's new iPod display, starting this week. If you were going to buy a new iPod, look for PotterCast.
Now I'm listening to Canon Conundrums. This is a segment done by the trio and Steve Vander Ark from The Harry Potter Lexicon, where they try to get to the bottom of various HP issues. This week was special in that everyone agreed on the answer to the question, which I'm not going to discuss here in case someone actually takes my advice and starts reading HP right now.
Actually, I don't think I mentioned that piece of advice. All of you, go to your library and take out Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone. And when you've finished all of them, go listen to PotterCast.
Anyway, this best episode 59 ever was great. Melissa found out that they were mentioned in a book called Tricks of the Podcasting Masters, which is quite an honor. John feels like a Jedi. (And that will be the first and last time the Jedi are mentioned on my blog.) Dobby's on sale this week, so he's freeee and on his way to the lucky winner of the blog challenge. Nobody spoil the last Unfortunate Events book for Melissa. Oh, and since you all love PC so much, there's a HP convention called Phoenix Rising in May, so go see the PotterCasters there! What else... John has an invisibility coat, and the PotterCasters like bowling. Any other tidbits without spoilers? Don't think so.
Now go listen!

World Trade Center

I just saw this movie, and it was... beautiful. I may have been using that word a bit too much on this blog lately, but there is just no other appropriate word. It follows the true stories of two policemen who went into the WTC on 9/11 and got trapped under the rubble- the rest of their team died. They couldn't get themselves out, and they were barely alive, until a rescue crew happened to find them. They were two out of just 20 people rescued from the WTC. The movie also follows their families- the waiting, the phone calls... it's all really emotional.
Anyway, this is an awesome movie. Highly reccommended. And that's coming from a chick flick girl.

Choref Tov!

Hey, everyone! Sukkot and Simchat Torah are over. The Sukkah's on the way down. Simchat Torah was awesome- we did a ton of dancing, and it was great. Especially because I was sick last year, so I didn't dance at all. And then we had a shul lunch, which was a lot of fun.
Winter starts after Succot, and I really can't wait for it! I'm so sick of the heat, I'm in the mood for some good cold weather- and that's after I was out of Israel for the entire summer... I want cold, and I want to wear winter clothes! I'll need to do some serious shopping when next summer runs around, but I have no patience for that now...
So have a good winter, everyone! And a good week!

Guess what I realized?

Tamar's Corner turned one year old this week! Happy Birthday to my blog! Yes, I know that was cheesy. Anyway, I missed the actual birthday, which was on the first day of Chol Hamoed. I started it that day because I wanted to do something to cheer myself up after being annoyed at my father for buying a guinea pig. That's ironic, because the saga of our pigs ended (almost) this week too.
Now that I'm on the subject of the piggies, I should wrap it up. So here we go:
First there was Lucy. I don't really know where that name came from, if it was originally Lucy as in I Love Lucy or not. In any case, it was Lucy, and the woman who worked in the pet store said she was pregnant. We were told that guinea pigs are happier with company, but if we were expecting babies, we weren't exactly about to buy two of them. And when the babies came, we'd figure out what to do with them.
The babies never came. Apparently Lucy wasn't really pregnant.
So we got another pig. We made sure to get another female so we wouldn't have to deal with guinea piglets, and it was obvious to all of us that her name was Ethel.
A few months later, three guinea piglets appeared in Lucy and Ethel's cage. By the next morning, there were only two. Now, six months later, the third one is still classified as missing, but we have our ideas about what happened to it. When they were old enough, my father took the two remaining babies to the pet store and got a credit.
It looked like Ethel was the mother, but we really didn't know. And then it happened again, when I was already in the U.S. Another baby appeared.
Now by this point, my mother, never much of an animal girl, had been lobbying for my father to get rid of the pigs for awhile. Probably about as long as we'd had Lucy, I'd say. She argued that they smell, they make a mess, and they have unwanted babies. She had all of her daughters behind her.
It was therefore decided that Lucy had to go, because, as my mother said, "He fathered too many children." The way I see it, that's quite an accomplishment for someone named Lucy. They couldn't take her back to the store, of course, so they gave her to Ein Yael, this "living museum" place with a petting zoo.
When the rest of my family went to America, they gave Ethel and the latest baby to the neighbors to watch. When we came home, with no intentions of getting rid of either one of them right now, we decided they both needed new names. The baby never had a name, and Ethel was quite weird without Lucy.
Since we'd just been in England, and we'd taken the Tube a lot while we were there so we knew all the names of the lines, we named Ethel Piccadilly and her kid Bakerloo after our favorites.
After that came the biggest surprise. Another baby. I need to point out that Piccadilly is both this kid's mother and grandmother, to put it mildly. I can also say that this kid is its own nephew/niece, but I think I should stop there.
So that latest development, plus the horrible stink, the mess and the fact that my sister Mira claims to be allergic to them (and I believe her, because I'd rather not have them) my father finally gave in and decided to get rid of them.
He took them to Ein Yael, only to get a call from them later that day, where they told him they actually don't want them. Then he posted on the Efrat e-mail list, and someone said they want them. He gave them Piccadilly and Bakerloo this past Motzai Chag, and then he gave them the baby because it's not done nursing yet. When it's done, we may give it to a cousin of ours who was at our house during the Chag, who said he wants it.
Wow, that was a long story. The point is, we have no more piggies in the house. I wouldn't reccommend them to anyone, but that's just my opinion. We're still celebrating the end of the era.
And my blog is one year old, but I don't think Ein Yael wants it either...

PotterCast II

PotterCast, the Harry Potter podcast: Celebrity interviews, theories, discussion and more from the Leaky Cauldron

Hey Potter People!
Let's see how much more I can write about this amazing podcast. See, this contest we're not talking about is still going on, so I get to rave more. First of all, have I mentioned that PotterCast won Best Entertainment at the 2006 Podcast Awards? I think I didn't, so that's another very good reason to listen to the trio. That just goes to show you that I'm not the only crazy one who listens to PC- we fans did the voting, and we did a wonderful job. Actually, those of us who listen aren't crazy at all. Or maybe we are, but think of how much fun it would be to join us? It's fun being crazy... but back on topic. PC has tons of fans- check this out. Not one of my regular websites, but it's worth mentioning. Not only that, but PC has tons of videos- some made by fans and some made by the trio themselves- on YouTube. I really discovered those videos only last night (I'd heard of them before but I never bothered to look at them) but they're awesome! Just another way to show how many fans this podcast has.
Anyway, last week Melissa shared with those of us who read the PotterCast Blog, that she's very annoyed because a lot of people spell PotterCast with a small C, which is simply unacceptable. Well, not really, but let me just clarify this: It's PotterCast, not Pottercast, people. I was supposed to blog about this last week, but I didn't get a chance.
The topic they want us to tell you PC-ignoramuses about this week is how we listen to it. Get this, it's so easy. I listen to PC on iTunes. I have no idea how it works on the other podcast catchers, but with iTunes you subscribe once, and then every time there's a new episode it downloads automatically- and let me repeat that it's free. So the new episode downloads onto my iTunes, I listen the first chance I get, and if I don't get a chance I download it onto my iPod and listen on the way home from school or wherever I happen to be. See, it's so easy. Now I don't do this, but there's also the option of downloading each episode by itself. And over the summer, when I was in the US at Savta's house, she didn't have iTunes on her computer and I wasn't going to download all the episodes onto her computer, I listened online. At PotterCast's site, there's a handy "Listen Now" button, which opens a player that plays PC online- similar to the player on my blog.
So that's how I listen to PC. I highly reccommend that you do the same. Or listen differently, if that's what you prefer. Just listen.
By the way, if by any chance anyone who reads my blog started listening to PC because of these posts, I'd love to know! I'd be thrilled, so please share that with me.
Now go listen!
Edit: In praise of the PotterCast Blog Challenge, I just had to mention that I really just realized right now that PC is none other than my favorite podcast. If there was one podcast I really look forward to every week, that really makes my week- definitely PC. I love MuggleCast, I love (in a very different way) the Sameach Music Podcast (Sameach Music is the company that releases most of the Jewish music I like, and their podcast previews it) and most of the other podcasts I listen to, but PC is definitely the best. Anyway, I heard about this blog challenge, and I would really have no problem raving about PC anyway, because I always knew I loved it. It was only when I thought about what I was writing that I realized how much I loved it. So thanks, for that, PotterCasters! Now let's just hope MuggleCast doesn't do a similar blog challenge, or I'll be in trouble... What's ironic is that I've been listening to MC for so much longer and I actually found out about PC from there...

Hey, how's it going?

Chag Sameach! Our first Chag was very nice. The sukkah came out beautiful, and we had a great time in it. We've been doing the usual Chol Hamoed stuff- hikes and the rest. Savta's coming tomorrow afternoon Be'ezrat Hashem so we'll have some fun with her.
I'm trying to think what else has been going on. I don't remember exactly when my last post was...
Anyway, I've been writing a lot lately, I'm cooking up a story and I hope it turns out good. But in any case it won't be turning out anything for quite awhile.
Have a good week and a Chag Sameach, and don't forget to listen to PotterCast!

PotterCast

PotterCast, the Harry Potter podcast: Celebrity interviews, theories, discussion and more from the Leaky Cauldron

OK, so I really don't know if any of you are Harry Potter fans, but if any of you have the slightest interest in the books (and have preferably read all of them) you must must MUST listen to PotterCast.
PotterCast is "the official podcast of the Leaky Cauldron", which is one of the best Harry Potter fansites on the web. It's quite hysterical and hosted by the wonderful trio of Melissa Anelli, John Noe and Sue Upton. Melissa is awesome, John will crack you up, and Sue is so adorable! Not to mention that they have a great Harry Potter discussion every week.
Oh, and for those of you who don't know:
"A podcast is a pre-taped radio show that you listen to at your leisure - whether at your desk, in your car, in your music player on a jog - whatever you like. We make it and upload it; you subscribe to a service that automatically downloads it onto your favorite or just on your computer, and listen whenever and wherever you want! PotterCast is one half of the "Leaky Mug", which is a joint podcast with MuggleCast, which is also an awesome podcast representing MuggleNet, another one of the best HP sites. My personal favorite thing about the Leaky Mugs is their live shows, which they often do after some big HP event. Those two great podcasts combined creats something spectacular. Just one more reason to check out PotterCast.
You can listen to it by clicking on the play button on the PotterCast logo to the left of these posts, by subscribing to it from a podcast catcher such as iTunes, iPodder and Odeo, or by downloading each show. You can listen to it on an iPod or an MP3 player, and, oh, and it's free!
Now, of course you all know I'm only telling you this so you'll listen to PC and have a great time, but there is another very irrelevant bit of information that PC is giving out prizes to people who promote it on their website, blog, MySpace, etc. But that's really not important.

Update (and I'm dropping the weekly...)

Actually, there's not much going on right now. They're starting to talk to us about Sherut Leumi at school, my driving lessons are slowly getting better, and on Sunday we had a cool activity with the 9th graders.

Belated Update

  • On Thursday night, we had an all-night trip in the desert with school. It was pretty awesome, and I should just mention that we saw a shooting star and got back jet-lagged.
  • I had a driving lesson today, and it wasn't horrible. The good news, which may acutally be bad news, is I'm not switching to automatic...

I think there's not much else to say. Have a good rest of the week!

I'm trying something

Ignore this picture. Or, you can look at it and gush about how cute the Potter trio used to be.

Edit: I'm trying something else. Don't mind me.

OK, this post is going to become the post from which I upload everything I need onto the internet.

My Sister's Keeper

I really have to reccommend this book. It tells the story of a girl who was genetically engineered to be a bone marrow match for her sister, who has leukemia. She eventually starts to wonder what her purpose is and why she's doing it. The book involves some drastic decisions and a lot of sister's love, and it's just so sweet. Beautifully tragic, tragically beautiful... you know. The author, Jodi Picoult, is such an amazing writer. This was probably one of the best-written books I've read in a very long time.

Remember my weekly updates?

  • Back to school...
  • I love my schedule this year! So many less hours....
  • I learned that there is actually something in this world that is more pointless than trigonometry: vectors.
  • I had my first driving lesson after two months. I can't really say how I did, but I can say that I have a lot of motivation to just get this over with. Hopefully I'll do it soon...

Shabbat Shalom!

In school again...

Yup, I'm a 12th grader... I'm old.....

Friday, August 25, 2006

I'm home!

I'm too tired to detail now, but London was great!
Shabbat Shalom!

Sunday, August 20, 2006

Just checking in

So... where are we? We've been in Philly for the past week, doing a lot of fun stuff and seeing a lot of fun family. We came back in the middle for my 2nd cousin's wedding. After that we went to Passaic for Shabbat and had a great time. Now, ta-dum, we're going to London for the week... and no, we're not going to visit the queen...
So have a good week!

Wicked

So I saw Wicked last night. It was beyond amazing. I'm almost speechless... The drama, and the music, and the effects... I really loved all of it. I just read the book, and finished it yesterday. I highly reccommend the book, just don't read it the day before you see the musical. It didn't ruin much, but it made it a bit confusing. I survived anyway, and I still loved the show. The cast was all amazing, especially this Eden Espinosa (who's pictured here in, um, green) who plays Elphaba. She's such a great actress, she has a good voice, and she's also pretty good looking... (Love that color!)
Anyway, I should probably say a thing or two about what the show is about. Well, the book is pretty much a "biography" of the Wicked Witch of the West (as in The Wizard of Oz). Elphaba, the witch, was born with green skin and had something of a bad life. She got pretty messed up, but she was never evil. Oh, and by the way, the evil one is actually the Wizard of Oz himself...
The musical is pretty much the same thing, except that it's a little more about her friend G(a)linda (the Good Witch of the North...) as well as Elphie. (No, I did not make up that nickname, thanks.) Anyway, I reccommed them both.
So, one more thing I have to say, as appeared on the green onesies in the gift shops:
Green Babies Rule!

Sunday, August 06, 2006

Hi!

So the rest of my family is here now, and that means more chaos but more to do. I've been really homesick and would love to get back to the Holy Land, and I'm suddenly realizing that I'm going into 12th grade... I'm so old!
Shavua Tov!

Long time, no post!

  • Camp is over! I'm freeee! But I plan on going back on Monday for Picture Day.
  • The other day I went to a Mets game with my sister, my grandmother, my uncle and two of my cousins. The Mets lost, but it was pretty awesome. You know, the experience.
  • Today I went to Manhattan with my sister and grandmother. We went to F.A.O. Schwartz (I love that store!), the Apple store (which is really awesome) and had pizza for lunch. We were going to go to the wax museum but it was closed for a private party. Oh, well.

Have a good one!

I did it!

I finally finished this scrapbook I've been working on for over a year! It's about the trip my family took out west two years ago last time we were in America. Working on it has been a huge challenge and now I'm really done, except for one page that's missing a picture so I'll finish that when I have the picture...
And while I'm posting here I should probably comment on what's going on in my beloved country. Or just state that I'm not going to comment because I'm not really sure of anything at the moment. I'm confused, I'll leave it at that.
So try to have a good week anyway...

Update

I'm still at Savta's house. I started camp on Thursday- I'm working with the 5-year-olds, which isn't so bad. Poor Sarah's working with the 2 1/2-year-olds. I went to Esti's in Passaic for Shabbat, and she's leaving for Israel tonight. We had a really great time on Shabbat... and now for more shopping...

I'm in NY!

I arrived on Thursday evening after spending the whole day on planes. We switched planes in London which wasn't as fun as I thought it would be, mainly because we were taking off from the very last gate at this huge terminal at Heathrow. On the other hand, for the first time in my life, I flew without an adult!! That part was fun, even if the rest wasn't.
So we arrived in NY and found out that one of my bags was being sent on a later flight. I was supposed to have it by Friday afternoon. Let me just say, I still don't have it. But Savta finally managed to get hold of someone helpful who told her I would have it by tomorrow morning. I'm inclined to believe that, and I'll deal with it if it doesn't come. Yesterday I wore the one shirt that was in my other suitcase, Sarah lent me the one Shabbat outfit she has that fits me, and she also lent me a pair of basketball shorts to sleep in. I have never worn basketball shorts, and Sarah's were too short on me. Now I washed the few clothes I have, just in case.
So we're at Savta's house now, and we're staying here for most of the summer. We have a staff meeting at Camp Tiferes tomorrow, and then Bubby and Zeyda are picking us up after that and we're going to their house.
That's all for now! Have a good week!

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

I'm leaving tomorrow!

I'll still be able to post on here, but you know... I'll be away...
Sarah and I are flying to London at 8 AM tomorrow, and arriving in NY some time in the evening or afternoon. I'll update later.

Sunday, June 18, 2006

I'm done!

Finally... I don't know how well it went, but it's over!!! Now I can stress about everything I need to do before I leave this Thursday, and all the people I need to see...

Natani found my glasses...

...in his room. I have no idea how they got there...

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

I did it!

My parents just took a 3-day vacation to the Carmel Forest Spa. Yes, we're all very jealous, but what I'm proud of myself for is that I babysat my brothers the whole time (almost) and I actually escaped unscathed... but now I'm really tired...

On a completely unrelated note, my glasses seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth, which means that now I have a headache for reading without them.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

Hi!

  • I passed my driving theory test! After flunking it once before, it's about time...
  • One Bagrut left!

I guess that's it... Have a good week!

Tuesday, June 06, 2006

BTW...

Summer plans are remaining intact. For the most part, I got over whatever was bugging me last night.

I'm stressed...

I have to study for my Toshba matkonet which is this Friday... It's a ton of material and not particuarly fun... but I also really need to pass my written driving test by this week, or else my teacher will... So that's why I'm studying full-time... I have a driving lesson this afternoon, which means going, taking the bus, and waiting for my teacher in the sun... not to mention driving... I'm tired because I woke up too early this morning, and because this heat is really getting to me... I'm sick of studying...

Monday, June 05, 2006

Hey, how's it going? ("*gasp* Rachel!")

OK, I have no idea what possessed me to use that line in the title of my post, one of those random Gilmore Girls things... (Let it be pointed out that "Hey, how's it going?" is just a totally normal catchphrase, but of course I have to connect it to Gilmore Girls. Go figure.)
So, today was my Tanach bagrut. I only have 2 tests left- a bagrut and a matkonet, both in Toshba.
Today I also had a little meltdown about my summer plans. It appears that I'm not as thrilled about them as I thought I was. We'll have to see what we can do about it, if anything.
I think thats all. Have a great... whatever.

Monday, May 29, 2006

Just saying hi...

Here's what's going on:
  • I had my math bagrut today. How did I do? No idea...
  • After many months of waiting, I am now the proud owner of a beautiful... iPod nano. Sooo gorgeous...
  • I have summer plans! I'm going to be in the U.S. full time, working in July with my sister Sarah and doing stuff with my family in August.

I think that's it. Let's study more!

Have a great time at the bonfires!

I love chemistry!

After taking a major chemistry test today, I had to vent. Now I'm done.

Yom Ha'atzmaut!

Happy 58th, Israel! OK, that was cheesy. Everybody have a great Yom Ha'atzmaut, and take a break from whatever's going on to have a barbecue- that is a must!
I should also point out that today I discovered that an Israeli flag has got to be one of the most beautiful things in existence. I just look at one and get this feeling of euphoria. But that's just me...

Monday, May 01, 2006

Hi!

Just dropping in to say how much I love this time of year. The weather's beautiful, and so is our country when it's covered in all that blue and white!

Sunday, April 23, 2006

Aaah! More piggies!

OK, I was supposed to be studying, but I had to come over here and say this:
Remember Lucy? Remember Ethel? Remember how Lucy was supposed to be pregnant, and we got Ethel because we came to the conclusion that she wasn't, after we had her for three months, and she didn't give birth? So now... one of them just had three babies. We don't know who is the mother (we think it's Ethel, which would make sense because we've had her for little enough time for her to still be pregnant) and we don't know if the father is in the cage. Mira says Lucy is the father, but I maintain that the father was Ethel's roommate in the pet store. Do I sound gross? Anyway, if either of the original guinea pigs is a male, we need to get rid of him, because we don't really want to mix males and females... In any case, we'll need to get rid of the babies, because we don't have room for five guinea pigs, not to mention that they told us in the pet store when we thought Lucy was pregnant that we can get a credit if we return the babies...
On the other hand, some of us are worried that the babies don't have a very long life ahead of them, so we'll have to see what happens to them...

Ummm... monthly update?

OK, so I have had so much stuff going on lately. Actually, I just had Pesach going on lately, but that's over and now I'm entering Bagrut season, which means I'll have tons of tests and probably very little time for my blog. I'll try to update when I can, such as now:
Pesach was fine... we went to the Dead Sea for the last few days. That was fun, other than it's kinda sad because the sea is emptying. You see a sign that says "No Swimming", but there's just no water...
I have a new obsession!!! (I won't mention right now that I get a new obsession every week, because this is a real one...) I just finished reading Eragon and Eldest, the first two of the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini. He started writing them when he graduated from high school at 15, so I'm kinda in awe of that, and feeling rather inspired to write. (Now if I can only come up with something good to write about...) Also, the books themselves are ingenious and written really well, so I'm very impressed... I can't wait for Book 3!
I think that's all. Now I need to get back to my school stuff, until I resurface in a few weeks...

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Happy Pesach!

Chag Sameach V'Kasher!
I personally will be glad to be done with all the cleaning, and looking forward to the actual Pesach part...
OK, that was totally cheesy. I just had to address Pesach, but I had nothing to say...

Some form of weekly update

I've been on vacation almost the whole week, and I've been cleaning, mainly in my room, and also studying for my written driving test. Neither are making much progress. Tomorrow we're going to the US consulate to renew our passports for our trip this summer, and next week will be more cleaning. Great. In other news, my grandmother came on Monday for Pesach, so we're all glad to see her.
Have a good week!

Monday, April 03, 2006

Pesach Break!

Thank G-d! School's finally out for the next 2 1/2 weeks, and I really need what I call the time to breathe... Mostly I'll be cleaning and catching up on school stuff, but it's still good to be off...

Thursday, March 30, 2006

Weekly update, I guess...

  • Poland...
  • Elections...
  • Today is Rosh Chodesh, so Chodesh Tov, everybody. I think that Chodesh HaGeula would be a good thing right around now...

So much for the week... as far as I'm concerned it was like 2 days long. Have a good week!

Purim pic

This is the picture I promised you of me dressed up as Mira on Purim...
I'll post a picture or two from Poland if I can find something appropriate, but I wouldn't count on it...

Elections...

Well, I'm not one to say anything about politics because I know next to nothing about it... but I'm pretty disappointed about the elections this year, and all I can say is I'll be 18 in under a year and I have every intention in voting as soon as I'm old enough...

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

I'm back!

Except that I haven't quite formulated my answer to the question "How was it?" because the normal answers aren't quite appropriate. Not that it wasn't fun- I couldn't find a better word for dancing at a Melave Malka in the Yeshiva in Gur... but I guess the best thing to say would be that it was, um, meaningful. I learned a lot although I did not particularly enjoy being in Poland of all places... by yesterday afternoon all I wanted was to get home. What else is there to say? A lot of it was depressing and hard, the hotel rooms weren't fun, the food was all brought over from here. But the best thing about being in Poland was definitely the buses. I'll give them that. Polish buses have bathrooms, fold-out tables, little baskets in front of the seats... but the best part is: the driver loads the suitcases...
And that's all for now!

Sunday, March 19, 2006

I'm going to Poland...

I have to be at Binyanei Hauma in Jerusalem at 1:45 tonight or tomorrow morning (whichever way you choose to look at it), and at 6:15 I'll be on the plane to Katovitch, Poland. Then I'll be spending 8 days at sites that have significance to Jewish history or the Holocaust. I'll be learning a lot and seeing a lot, and I'll report back here when I get home!

Thursday, March 16, 2006

The Week that Was

Well, I would say everything that happened this week revolved either around Purim or my upcoming trip to Poland this Monday.
Shabbat: The last Shabbat before Purim is always spent in school. That was fun...
Sunday: The Purim party in school.
Monday: Ta'anit Esther, and a tour in Yad Vashem.
Tuesday: Purim! (I still owe you a picture.)
Wednesday: Shushan Purim, shopping in preparation for my trip.
Thursday: A preparatory talk with a psychologist.
That's all! Have a good week!

Monday, March 13, 2006

Happy Purim!

Have a great time with whatever you do on Purim or whenever you celebrate it! I'll be dressing up as my sister Mira, meaning I'm going to wear all of her clothes, she straightened my hair, and I'll wear tons of Michal Negrin jewelry. Pictures will show up at some point...
Chag Sameach!

Thursday, March 09, 2006

Slow news week...

Yeah, well after I got back from Eilat, which I already posted about, nothing really happened... Have a good week!

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

Eilat II

I just got back from Eilat again, this time on a "tiyul shnati" (=a yearly overnight trip with school) and, OMG, it was great! We did a ton of hiking and we're all really sore, we took a boat ride with singing and dancing, we stayed in a hotel... and so many other things.

Thursday, March 02, 2006

Tri-weekly update...

Aaah! Did I just commit myself to writing down everything that happened to me in the past 3 weeks? (Do I rememer everything that happened to me in the past 3 weeks?) Well, here goes...
  • The trip to the Chermon
  • Tu Bishvat and spending time with the grandparents
  • Working like crazy on the beintchumi...
  • ...More working like crazy on the beintchumi...
  • ...and more.
  • Handing in the beintchumi...
  • A pretty good driving lesson
  • Getting sick
  • Tonight we have the "Hachtara" which is a play put on by the 12 graders. I don't know if I'm going because I don't feel great...

Have a good week!

Wednesday, March 01, 2006

G-d loves me!

I had to get sick the day after I handed in my "beintchumi". How convenient. On the other hand, today is Rosh Chodesh Adar which means there was dancing this morning in school... and I had to miss that. Oh, well.

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

I'm alive!

Hi everyone! Remember me?
It's now 12:50 AM, but I felt the need to come in here and tell you all that the reason I have been off the internet for the past 2 weeks is now over. I have in my hands, my 11th grade "beintchumi", which is this massive paper I had to write, which somehow got procrastinated until the last second and I had to work like crazy. So now it's done, a bit shorter than it has to be, and not anywhere near perfect, but what's important is I got my life back. So now I need to go to sleep, and there will be more posts soon...

The Chermon

The Chermon is a ski slope in the very far north of Israel. We went there as a prize for winning the Symphonia... (see previous posts). So what happened yesterday?
I got up before 6. We sat on the bus for 5 hours. Our bus driver took pleasure in throwing snow at us inside the bus. We took a ski lift to the top of the mountain. We did not ski down. I had issues with my camera batteries. I fixed the issues with my camera batteries. I rented a sled with my friend Adina. We sledded down a mini-slope a million times. We had a great time. My toe got run over by someone's sled. We went down a few more times. We went back down on the lift. We got back on the bus and most of us promptly went to sleep. We drove back to Jerusalem. We stopped at a rest stop where the toilets were flooded and it kinda smelled a bit bad. I had issues with the buses on the way home. I came home exhausted.
So did I have a good day yesterday? Of course I did.

Thursday, February 09, 2006

What happened this week?

  • All the buses to Efrat were changed, making my commute home a lot longer, more annoying, colder and a lot less fun.
  • My last session of vision therapy, which is a way of solving eye problems without glasses. I still need glasses, but it did help...
  • I had my last "0" chemistry class- called 0 because it's before the first class at 8:00 AM on Wednesday. We're making progress in the material, so we dropped that early class!
  • My driving lesson, though, was sadly not the last...
  • We had a not-so-interesting tour with my chemistry class...
  • My grandparents, who are avid readers of Tamar's Corner, came today! And I took advantage of the early end of this tour to go with my father to pick them up from the airport.

Have a great week!

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

I got glasses!

Yep, I got reading glasses. Everyone in my family has had glasses from a pretty young age, and my genes took 17 years to catch up with me. Anyway, I don't mind that much, and the computer screen looks so much bigger now...
(And don't look at the picture. It's bad.)

Thursday, February 02, 2006

The week that was

  • The beloved cousins leave...
  • A full-day seminar preparing us for our trip to Poland.
  • I'm not really sure how to comment on the violence that went on yesterday at the evacuation from Amona, so I think I won't say anything.

That's all! Have a good week!

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Another pic of me...

OK so this is another attempt to put a better picture of myself in my profile. What I said before still stands: My hair is neither that short nor that straight...

Weekly update

  • I spent time with my adorable cousins!
  • I signed up to go to Poland with my school to learn about the Holocaust before Pesach.
  • Another scary math test... but I think I did OK.
  • I reversed!!! Ouch, that was annoying!
  • I fed the guinea pigs for the first time in my life. But I made it my business not to touch them.

Have a good week!

Thursday, January 19, 2006

The week that was

  • The wonderful symphonia!
  • Normal life resumes
  • My cousins came yesterday from NY!
  • Driving lesson #2, as it turns out my friend who told me it's more fun the second time is right...

Have a good week!

It's all over... and I'm thrilled!

Well, this feeling isn't new to me, because I've felt it after every Festival I've been at so far. We won!!! We have a very talented person in our grade, and every time we win we owe it to her. This is our fourth year winning first place, and when the principal commended her for this in front of the whole school, I have to say she deserved it. And when we gave the principal flowers like tradition dictates, he passed them on to her.
That said, I'm exhilirated. Shocked. Thrilled. All of the above. Every year, we all say there is no chance we'll win again. Three years in a row is crazy... Four years in a row is crazy... and then we win again. And not only did we win four years straight, but we won in eleventh grade. Nobody wins in 11th grade because they're so busy planning the whole event. We didn't even start working on our dance until this past Thursday. Yet we still managed to win, and defeat the strong urge the judges must have to give someone else first place. OK, I'll admit most of the rest of the songs weren't so good. But still... (Goodness knows this repetitive vitcory really inflates my ego even though I had nothing to do with the actuall win.)
Oh, and I forgot to mention our prize: a trip to the Chermon, because it doesn't seem to be snowing in Jerusalem...
OK, now I'm done raving about our song. We also had a play with a lot of dances, and it came out just amazing! The acting was good, and the music added a ton.
Anyway, I need to go to sleep soon. But I'm so proud of all of us!!! We did it!!!
Oh, and I'm not posting any pictures because they all came out bad. :-( I forgot my camera had a setting for fast motion, so they came out blurry. Maybe if I get my hands on someone else's I'll share them.

Thursday, January 12, 2006

This week

  • Driving lesson #1
  • Staying in school to work on the Symphonia
  • Finishing early almost every day this week because of rehearsals
  • Fasting...
  • The arrival of Ethel

Have a good week!

Wednesday, January 11, 2006

Oy, guess what?

My father walked in tonight with... another guinea pig. He'd been talking about doing that since we came to the conclusion Lucy wasn't pregnant because they say guinea pigs are happier with company, and tonight he actually did. Mira and I had been lobbying for everyone to agree to call her Ethel for as long as we'd been talking about getting another one, and tonight we actually managed to convince them. We almost didn't call her that because my brother Noam (age 3) was saying "Effel" at first but then he managed to say "Ethel".
So, let me just say that anyone who expected Lucy to be welcoming toward her new roommate was very wrong. Ethel is very small, probably as big as Lucy was when we got her, and let me make this very clear: Lucy hates her. I'm finding this very amusing, because I never really liked Lucy (but that's mutual) and had no plans to like Ethel. My father put Ethel in the cage, and Lucy came out and started chasing her around the cage. Ethel clearly didn't like it, so she went into the "house". Lucy followed her in and Ethel went out. Then they found a new way to get out of the house in case someone was blocking the exit, by pushing it up and then squeezing out. Anyway, we brought down some carrots, and Lucy ate both of them. My father said they were making noises he hadn't heard before and I said Lucy was probably laying down some ground rules, the first of which is: "I get all the veggies."
Some of us don't think Ethel will make it through the night.

Everything's good!

Wow, I have a gazillion things going on right now.
First is the Symphonia. Every year my school had a big event 2 days before Tu Bishvat called the festival. What they did was choose a topic, and each grade had to compose two songs under that theme and then put together a dance to go with the song. It was a contest judged by a representative from each grade and a group of teachers. And everything else was provided by the 11th grade. I'm talking about the scenery, the decorations around the school, the MC's, the skits, the dances that weren't part of the contest, the costumes for the skits and dances, and just about everything else. The festival was always held in the school. Oh, and my grade has won first place for the past 3 years, plus a third place 2 years ago, because of some rather talented people. Anyway, this year we're in 11th grade so it's our turn to do it, but they're changing it. The school decided it needs more content, so they turned it into a musical. From now on, they'll choose a person from Tanach every year, all of the songs will be related to the person, and the play will be made up of Midrashim and stories from Tanach that match the songs. And they renamed it "HaSymphonia Hashvi'it" (The 7th Symphony, because 11th grade is called the Shvi'it, which means 7th year) and moved it to a theater. So our person is David Hamelech, and the name of our musical is "Shiru Lamelech". I was on the text committee, and I've been missing a ton of classes to find stories and write the script. Now rehearsals have started, for the play and the dances that enhance it, not to mention the song and dance we're entering in the contest. They wanted me to dance, but that was so not happening. Anyway, the Symphonia is this coming Sunday, so last night we stayed in school. I left for a few hours for my (first!) driving lesson, but other than that I was in school the whole night. We painted the scenery until 10, had a great time, and it came out gorgeous!!! (See picture.) And then we watched a rough version of the play and the dances, and I have to say, it's going to be amazing! We went to sleep in the school dorm around 1, and we were aching all over from the painting on the floor while trying to avoid the wet paint. Then we had school the next day, and we were all falling over. The one good thing was getting up at 8 because we were already in school. Then today they let us out early for more rehearsals, and since I'm not dancing or acting I went home. Thank Goodness.
Another thing going on is- I DROVE YESTERDAY!!!! Although it wasn't that thrilling, because I had close to no idea what I was doing. I've heard it's more thrilling as of the second lesson, so I have that to look forward to. Then I got back to school and had to endure everyone I saw going "HOW WAS IT????", so by the time I talked to my mother and she asked how my lesson was, all I could say was, "Fine."
What else? School. I have a major paper due in about a month...
Ummm... my (Hebrew) birthday is tomorrow which is also Asarah B'Tevet- a fast which also commemorated the Holocaust. Have an easy fast, everyone.
Last but least, my cousins are coming to visit us in a week and a half in preparation for their upcoming Aliyah. We're so excited!
Gevalt, I think that's it. Overall, I would say my mood is good!

This week's happenings:

  • A traumatic ordeal in the mall. The movie was good, though.
  • Back to school.
  • We're working very hard on our "Symphonia Hashviit" (7th Symphony/11th Grade Symphony). I don't feel like explaining what that is right now because I'm not feeling that good about it right now, but I'll gladly do so after it comes out great.
  • My birthday's this week. 17 on the Hebrew calendar.

Have a good week!

I have my first driving lesson on Sunday!

That's all. I just had to say that.

Oy, gevalt...

I think HP freaks all over the world will be proud of what they made me go through today.
My sister Mira hadn't seen the new movie yet, and our plan was to go to the 12:30 showing at the mall. So we got there at 12, and I went to buy tickets but we were told it was already sold out. Such is Chanukah. The next showing was... at 4, and going home and coming back later was out of the question because we don't live close enough. We discussed it at length, and I decided to be nice to my little sister and wait there until 4. So the first thing we did was buy tickets for the 4:00 showing, and all we could get was 2nd row. This is the part the HP freaks should be proud of. So anyway, we walked around the mall, bought some things we needed, and around 2:30 we were ready to drop. So we walked around in search of places to sit, sat and walked some more. Eventually we made it into the movie, and my first reaction was, "What idiot put a HP movie in a 7-row theater?" But we can be proud anyway. And the movie was just as good the second time, so I was happy, except for the part where I spent 7 hours in the mall...
Oh, and Mira knows not to ask me for any favors of this kind for a long time.

*sniff*

I've just been hit with the sad realitztion that Harry Potter is almost over. I've been hooked for a long time, and it's been only the books (and Jo. We can't forget Jo.) for me. I've never particularly loved the movies, and even though I raved about the last movie, that was just because they did an amazing job based on the book, but it's definitely not one of my favorite movies.
But the books. Jo Rowling has big plans for 2006, which are to write the LAST HP book. LAST. And it just hit me. I was never really sad about it before, like I know other HP fans are. I have quite a few other things in my life besides HP, and I should be able to get over it. A lot of people talk about missing the speculation, but I don't think I'm going to miss that. Like, it will be missing, but I'll have all the answers I need to my questions, so I don't think I'm going to be too sad about that.
It's just like, there will be no more Harry Potter books. This was emphasized to me in a quote I read on www.the-leaky-cauldron.org by Melissa, the webmistress: "Opening a Harry Potter book for the first time is a rare gift, and we've only got one left." I almost cried when I saw that, and I realized how right she is. It's over.
So I'm not a fan of the movies, but obviously I'll see them all anyway. Being that I'm not a fan of theirs, they won't be keeping me in the "fandom". The HP part of my life will have to really live for the 8th book or the encyclopedia Jo said she probably won't but "never say never" write.
And speaking of Jo, I am a huge fan of hers, and also of her website. I think it is possible for the Potter-Freak in me to live through the updates to her site, and anything else she may write. Please, Jo, write!
Waaaaahhhhh.......
